Windows

  • Default OS: Japanese Windows.
  • Screen capability: Rotate, Zoom. This baby has related hot-keys below its tiny LCD screen.
  • Finger print login.
  • Rotatable screen. Nice as an e-book (pdf) reader.
  • Mouse buttons on the left shoulder and navigation on the right shoulder.

Linux

I don’t think this particular small-size PC has many fans out there, even install Linux (Ubuntu) as its OS. Default installation of Linux Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty can not display graphics on vga-out. Special driver must be installed manually.

#lspci -vv
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation System Controller Hub (SCH Poulsbo) Graphics Controller (rev 06)
Subsystem: Fujitsu Limited. Device 14bc

After many unsuccessful attempts to compile and install ‘psb’ VGA driver, I found http://fit-pc2.com/wiki/index.php?title=Installing_Ubuntu_9.04

I followed the instructions to setup repository, using provided kernel and psb modules, then this baby has a correct VGA driver and able to display screen (extended desktop) via vga-out. Unfortunately, missing its ethernet module (not wireless module though).

05:04.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)

I tought it should be easy to install 8139 ethernet module, because 8139 is common ethernet chip. Many distros include it in their standard installation. However, adding 8139 module manually turned out to be difficult. I failed to find (using Google, of course) a simple way to install it. Original rtl8139.c by Donald Becker does not compile succesfully, even after I spent some hours to tinker with it. *Sigh*. Perhaps later.

Finally successful ‘psb’ driver compilation and installation
